Nevada Industry Excellence helps YESCO increase production For the past year, Nevada Industry Excellence Project Managers have been helping Nevada’s premier sign company, Young Electric Sign Co. (YESCO), eliminate production waste, reduce inventory and improve throughput and quality. Nevada Industry Excellence showed YESCO how to combine its production lines into one flow line. By establishing a “cable cell” to manufacture cables instead of pulling workers from other jobs, YESCO was able to increase productivity by an outstanding 300 to 500 percent. “It (the cell) gives us a leg up in an area in which we knew we had to make changes,” Rod Wardle, Electronics Branch Manager, said. “The light has turned on. This cable cell is a home run.”
As a result of Nevada Industry Excellence’s successful Value Stream Mapping advice, YESCO invited Nevada Industry Excellence to become involved in the design of its new 17,000 square-foot facility in Las Vegas. YESCO followed the suggestions of Nevada Industry Excellence on where to locate production machines in the process-flow area. This proper placing resulted in maximized production throughout.
Improvements occurred in:
Material handling Manufacturing cells for cables ESD - Electrical Static Discharge protection Production output “In short, the Nevada Industry Excellence staff went out of their way to integrate themselves into our organization, made a logical assessment of our needs and assisted us every step of the way to implement the best ideas of Lean Manufacturing into our organization,” Wardle said. “We look forward to a continuing relationship with our local representatives from Nevada Industry Excellence.”
YESCO is North America’s largest custom neon sign and high-tech electronic LED sign manufacturer. The company designed and built the famous Fremont Street Experience, which is the jewel of downtown Las Vegas and has produced many of the landmark signs that personify Las Vegas, Reno and locations throughout the world.
